TIME Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year, MATILDA THE MUSICAL, opened at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts last night for a limited two week run through May 7, 2017.
Winner of over 70 international awards including 4 Tony Awards® and a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards® including Best Musical, MATILDA THE MUSICAL is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox). It is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her destiny.
The three girls sharing the title role are Gabby Gutierrez, Jaime MacLean and Jenna Weir. The principal cast also features: Jennifer Bowles (Miss Honey), Dan Chameroy (Miss Trunchbull), Keisha T. Fraser (Mrs. Phelps), Matt Harrington (Mr. Wormwood) and Darcy Stewart (Mrs. Wormwood).
The young girl who played Matilda during last night’s performance was Jamie MacLean and she was absolutely sensational! What a talented young performer. We can most certainly expect great things from this little star. The cast, overall, was outstanding. Everyone did such a fantastic job at portraying each individual character, but of course- we all have our favorites now and then, and this time, my favorite was Dan Chameroy, who played Miss. Trunchbull. He was absolutely BRILLIANT! My husband and I have laughed so much… I mean, we literally CACKLED from how hard we were laughing, and it wasn’t just us… The crowd was roaring with laughter and cheer. In a theater filled to the top with lovers of the performing arts, it was surely a night to remember! For Joey (my husband), it was one of his favorites that he has seen so far. Lion King still remains at the top of my list, along with Motown, but this one… This one was one for the books!
It’s a great musical for the whole family. Enjoy it with a side of coca cola and some cheddar & caramel popcorn (so delicious). We look forward to our next musical adventure!
